My Work.
On this page, you will find a compilation of the work I have created over the semester. This semester I have focused on the art of Millinery. I focused my skills as a costume technologist on creating three hats from around the 1800s. The three hats that I focused on were the Flat Cap, the Top Hat, and a Victorian bonnet. After Arizona State University, I plan to teach high school theatre. After much discussion with my mentor, Connie Furr, we decided that I should learn how to make hats to teach my future students. As my plan was always teaching, one of my main goals was to understand how to teach students how to design or create headwear. To teach my students, I must first know how to sew hats myself. Another one of my goals this semester was to broaden my understanding of fabrics. This semester I have learned how to create a hat. As this was my primary goal, I believe that that is an accomplishment. I have a newfound understanding of the process and feel confident in leading my students through the process. I have also gained a sense of what fabrics are best to create the hats I explored. This knowledge allows me to guide my students in their costuming adventures.
